Keynote Speaker and Instructor: Kelley Mason
Kelley Mason is the founder of Kozy Carrier, a company that she owns with her sister Kristi Jennings. She is also a wife and a mother of 5 little ones (and Lord willing more to come). She started babywearing from day one when her first was born in 2000. She started with a pouch and quickly realized that she could easily make her own and thus started years of making and sewing baby carriers. In 2002 when her ‘high needs’ daughter was born, she quickly realized she needed a 2 shoulder carrier. Completely winging it and with no formal instructions, she made her first mei tai in the fall of 02. After months of sewing and tweaks she came up with a design that worked perfectly for her and was also unique compared to other carriers out at the time. Due to demand, she started a business in 03 and named her carrier Kozy. It was the first “modern” mei tai on the market. The Kozy Carrier being sold today has not changed much from it’s original design from years ago. Her sister Kristi joined as business partner in 04 and her dad works with Kozy too. Though Kozys get used most in the Mason house, Kelley loves, uses, and appreciates all types of babycarriers. Kelley taught classes at the last 2 babywearing conferences, and does the mei tai section on the instructional babywearing DVD Tummy 2 Tummy. As much as she loves Kozy, Kelley’s true passion lies with her family. She is a stay at home mom and homeschools her 5 children. She is very passionate (and often outspoken) about all things related to childbirth and instinctive parenting. She enjoys promoting homebirth, co-sleeping, babywearing, breastfeeding, elimination communication, positive discipline and natural medicine. She also enjoys making most of her own cleaning and beauty products, eating traditional foods, raw milk and kefir, and hopes to one day have a farm so they can do more homesteading. She loves animals and wishes she had more time for music and art, oh and sleep. There are a million things she would love to try (from welding to knitting) but figures she will get around to them one day . . . when the kids are older. Before having kids Kelley spent much of her time working with children. She taught children’s church for 12 yrs. She also worked at an Early Learning Center for 5 years and was a Nanny for 2 years. She has a degree in English. She met Charlie in 1992 during her senior year of highschool and they have been together ever since. They were married in June of 1998 and it has been a wild ride ever since. Share on Facebook
